Introduction

The congregation expanded rapidly throughout the twentieth century and established educational institutions across India, particularly in South India. Auxilium College became one of the congregation's pioneering women's colleges, extending the Salesian mission beyond schools into higher education.
Establishment of Auxilium College
Auxilium College was established in 1954 to address the growing need for higher education for women in the Vellore region. During the years following India's independence, opportunities for women to pursue university education remained limited, particularly outside major metropolitan centres. Christian educational institutions played an important role in expanding access to higher education during this period.
The Salesian Sisters recognized that educating women would contribute not only to individual advancement but also to the development of families and communities. Affiliated with the University of Madras during its early years, the college later became affiliated with Thiruvalluvar University following its establishment.
